Two Texas charter school systems win federal ?Race to the Top? education grants

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has eschewed the U.S. Department of Education’s “Race to the Top” grants, but two Texas charter school systems were selected today as winners of the federal government’s latest education reform competition. Harmony Public Schools and IDEA Public Schools from the Rio Grande Valley were among 16 applicants from 11 states and the District of Columbia that won $400 million in 2012 Race to the Top-District grants announced today by Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
